Total profile SOC stocks from the database. Note areas of generally low SOC content in the desert and intermountain west, southern shortgrass steppe, and southeast. Large SOC stocks occur in mountainous areas (including the Coast and Sierra Nevada Ranges, Rockies and Appalachian Mts.), with intermediate SOC stocks in the Mollisols of the central and northern prairies.
